3 facing drug charges in Cocke Country following arrests

Tennessee law enforcement officials frequently receive tips about suspected drug activity throughout the state. Officers in Newport recently followed up on information received about alleged drug activity. This led to the arrest of three individuals on a variety of drug charges.

Officers from the Newport Police Department reported that they had been dispatched to a location where drug activity was suspected. Two officers were on their way to the location when they spotted a vehicle that was supposedly involved in the activity. The police followed the car for a period of time, then proceeded to stop the vehicle for speeding.

The officers got everyone out of the car. The occupants included a 22-year-old man, a 40-year-old man, a 24-year-old woman and the woman's 21-month-old child. Reports show that police discovered methamphetamine during a search of the younger man. The officers suspected that he was under the influence as they claimed he continually tensed his arms and had a heightened mood.

The police searched the vehicle and reportedly found more methamphetamine in a diaper bag. The three individuals were arrested and transported to the Cocke County Jail. A search of the older man purportedly found cash and a Suboxone strip. Charges against the three included possession of schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to sell controlled substances and child endangerment.

Anyone facing drug charges in Tennessee should not take the matter lightly. If convicted, someone may have to pay large fines or spend a considerable amount of time in jail. It is imperative to present the strongest defense possible. A experienced criminal defense lawyer can help clients mount a vigorous defense with the goal of minimizing the negative impact on their lives.
